ECOWAS leaders hold summit in Guinea Bissau

West African leaders are meeting in Guinea Bissau’s capital Bissau on Sunday to discuss various issues affecting the region.

The Heads of State will be considering reports from the Ninetieth Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers meeting held from July 6 to 7, 2023, in Bissau, a statement from ECOWAS said.

The Sixty-Third Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government will also consider other issues affecting the region during their session, the statement added.

Earlier in the week the 50th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council (MSC) at the Ministerial level took place in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau on July 5, 2023.

The Ministers discussed the peace and security situation in the region, the ECOWAS Standby Force, ECOWAS Stabilization Missions, humanitarian situations in the region, and update on the status of the Implementation of the National Early Warning Centres, among others.
